Barbara Brannon is having a great time ‘hatching’ out butterflies. Here’s what she has to say:
These are just some of the monarchs I have been working to save this summer. The first group was 45 caterpillars/chrysalis. So far I have released about 55 monarchs. All of them came off Milkweed in my yard. Since then I have had almost 100% survival rate. I have two cages and and unbelievable amount of Milkweed. I thought I had plenty in my yard to feed them until they started to strip plants in a matter of hours.
I also have Queens and Pipevine Swallowtails that will be emerging soon. Karen McCoy furnished the Pipevines. Although I have an ample amount of pipevine plants I did not have any eggs or caterpillars. Karen on the other hand, had a big hatching but not enough food for them. I currently have 9 more in chrysalis that will emerge in the next week. I thought the other MG’s might enjoy the video of the monarchs.
