There are over 200 communities in Fort Bend County with Home Owners Association (HOA) requirements. Fort Bend Master Gardeners surveyed a sampling of these communities and created a list of over 400 approved plants, including trees, shrubs, annuals, and perennials. Then, three gardens were created using the plants approved by the most subdivisions in the survey. These gardens can help give residents ideas for their own gardens. The first garden is somewhat formal, the second is a “cottage-style” garden, and the third is a smaller garden created on a minimal budget. Of course, you will need to check the HOA landscape rules for your subdivision since even the plants approved the most frequently in Fort Bend are not approved by every subdivision. And please consider sunlight, drainage, soil, moisture, and available space when you choose your plants. For more information, click here to see a list of the most common plants.
